Description
My drum skills are somewhere in that vague area described as intermediate, somewhere between beginner and seasoned or professional. I have been in bands since high school, playing all the usual rock band instruments (and some trumpet) but in the last six months, I have been more focused on being a musician behind the drum kit. By musician, I mean actually studying and understanding rhythm and beats rather than just relying on feeling. I have a drum kit at home on which I regularly practice but I also have another small kit at a rehearsal space near Ladd's Addition. I am looking for other persons similarly situated to me to play improv music there on weekend mornings. By similarly situated, I mean adults with non-musical careers that still play their musical instruments as much as they can because it is part of them. I am not all that interested in playing your songs, starting a band or doing any sort of recording. Right now I just want to play to grow, explore and hopefully create something interesting along the way. Left to my own, I usually play simple rock or hip hop beats. I don't play hard and I wish I could play jazz. On a good day, I play beats that sound like they came off a Massive Attack or Tricky record. I would love to be challenged and don't mind failing. I have lived in Portland since '99. Most of my musical friends have moved away or are too busy with their careers, kids and/or alcohol consumption. I love beer but can make time for that later. I took this corny picture of some ticket stubs that I recently framed to show off some of the great bands I have seen, mostly before I was 21 years old. I've always considered myself a fan first. Hit me up if interested. You'll have to bring your own amp.
