Wanted: Lead Guitar for Jazz-Rock Fusion Project
Meets
Portland OR
Description
If you’re looking for an incredibly high level of freedom and challenge in an original musical project influenced by artists like Allan Holdsworth, Bill Connors, Pat Metheny, Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Brand X, Steve Khan, and Tribal Tech, with a little King Crimson and Yes thrown in for good measure, then read on. At the moment we’re just rhythm guitar, bass and drums, and we’re looking for a highly skilled, jazz-trained guitarist to bring their own style and ideas into the mix and write and play the majority of the solos and melodies for our fully developed original compositions, though we’re also open to any compositions you might want to bring to the table. Our music is an eclectic blend of jazz, fusion and progressive rock sensibilities, and our approach to it involves tightly structured base compositions that we explore with fresh ideas and fire each time they are played. The Soundcloud page linked below is for the other band the bass player and I (the rhythm guitarist) are in, and while those base compositions were also composed by me and approached the same way we are approaching the new project, with everyone in the band composing their own parts and collaborating on the arrangements, we’re playing entirely new material in the new project with our (also excellent) drummer, and are not remotely trying to reproduce the sound of the other band. That said, just as the Soundcloud songs do, we juggle a fair number of time signatures and tempo changes in the new compositions, but always organically in service of the music, so although the songs are quite complex in many ways, it hopefully doesn’t come across as overtly mathy. After doing a little necessary practice on our own each week, we get together to play live every Friday evening in SE Portland near 55th and Johnson Creek Blvd. in a fully loaded professional recording studio, complete with top-notch individual headphone mixers for everyone, recording every rehearsal in multi-track. While our primary goals involve recording and releasing records, and just having fun writing and playing, we’re also game for live performances whenever the right opportunity arises, but are not looking to play weekly or even monthly in the local club scene. Playing music like this is all about group chemistry, and we’re open to the music going in different directions depending on the player who eventually joins us in this endeavor. If the kind of freedom and challenge this project offers piques your interest, send me an email with links to a few things you’ve recorded (if you can) as the first step, and then let’s talk and I can send you some trio recordings to play around with. https://soundcloud.com/betweendimensionspdx
