The true cost of cuteness - English Bulldog health issues

Description

Hi there, I'm not sure what I am hoping to get out of this post.... I have a 2.5 year old English Bulldog that instantly stole my heart and made my world better (and so much dirtier). ;) Once he turned 2, his health has been on the decline. I knew they had health issues but not at this age. Paw infections, skin issues, allergies, cherry eye, recently torn CCL...over the weekend we took him to a couple specialty surgeons for consults and they are quoting almost $10,000 to fix him up. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. Holy. shit. I love this dude like my child, I have no kids so he is essentially my fur baby. How does someone handle this situation? He is essentially guaranteed to have more issues down the line...so even if I COULD pay the money for the surgeries, more health issues are likely to come. I can't drop him off at a shelter, I can't imagine finding him a better home (unless there was an equal match of love and finances), it rips me in half even imagining putting him down, we don't have the money.... How on earth do I decide what to do? I want him to have a happy full life. I don't want him in pain. I don't ever want him to be given to someone who won't give him the best life possible....sigh. Bulldogs are absolutely the cutest pups in all ways - both personality and looks. But there is a true cost behind it. No one really talks about it and I find that unfortunate. If anyone knows of bulldog support groups or places that can help provide grants for surgeries, or if you have ANY helpful advice, please let me know. If you have any negative feedback, please keep it to yourself. Thank you for your time.
