Description
Established/experienced indie/psychedelic rock musician here looking to form a throwback soul band in the vein of the Funk Brothers, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, etc. Heavily influenced by 60s Motown/Stax records and early funk, but not a funk band, we will be a soul band with little to no modernity in our sound at all. I want to sound like a real deal soul review from 1967 when we take the stage, and that means anyone in the band will need to be a solid musician who is very familiar w the material/genre. Good news is, it’s not too hard to get down/learn, just start listening to lots of motown and play along on your weapon of choice. I play guitar and sing, but I’m also looking for a powerful front man/woman who can sing like nobody’s business and take this band to those magical places hardly any band goes nowadays. Then the rest of us will sing lots of harmonies and call and response parts. Needing: *Bass- Jim Jamerson version 2.0, we all have it easy if we find this person *Drums- pocket grooves, no hard rock stuff or big tom fills. Less is more. I likely have the drummer already but we aren’t opposed to a percussionist either *Organ/piano- again, be good at the “less is more” old stuff that feels good, but also be a prodigy on keys. You’ll be one of the most crucial members of the band *Horns horns horns! - sax, trombone, trumpet, will pay extra if you can lead the horn section/write charts for my originals too *Second guitar- need to be able to play rhythm and lead (nothing fast or fancy, just tasteful soul leads, no distortion) *Bonus points if you can sing harmony If you play any of the above instruments and feel like you could be a good fit, hit me up! Let’s make this happen. This is the kind of show that would fill any venue and pay well, so long as we get a set ready. I’m thinking we will learn a set of covers to get everyone comfortable playing the stuff, then slowly start writing originals til we are good enough to play mostly original sets.
