Superior health is of upmost importance prior to breeding, followed by temperament and intelligence, then by rarity in hair type and pattern (wooly coats, standard coats, piebald, Agouti, Red, white/black, etc), and lastly by eye color (bi-eyed, party-eyed, blue, brown, amber). This breed took my heart by storm as a child growing up with them on my Grandparents farm; right from their intelligence, curious nature, willingness to work, their comedic personalities, down to their stunning appearance—I found myself utterly captivated by them. With all that said, this breed needs a dominant master that is willing to train and correct them from the time they go to their forever homes. They can be stubborn (due to their high intelligence) and will challenge you by refusing to do what you are commanding, in hopes that their cute appearance paired with their goofy personality can get them out of it. Don’t let them fool you! If they feel they can constantly get their way, it may result in a poorly behaved companion and some lose their forever homes that way. That is what we want to avoid. Quickly correcting them, then giving them positive reinforcement paired with treats when they follow commands works wonders. They’ll do anything for food! We want you to enjoy everything your companion has to offer, but it takes full commitment from the owner to build that bond and raise the best companion there is for them.
