Description
Summer Fundamentals Coding Course is a course ran every Tuesday and Thursday for the month of August, beginning on August 3rd, and ending on August 31.
Each day the course will run from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, except the last day, August 31st, which will run from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, as students will be finalizing their final coding projects and sharing with the class.
Summer Fundamentals Coding Course is designed for students who have have no experience coding, minimal coding experience, or moderate coding experience.
The course begins by looking at how users make choices in the apps they use. Students then learn to make a variety of Sprite Lab apps that also offer choices for the user. In the later lessons in the course, students will learn more advanced concepts, including variables and “for” loops. Students are given greater autonomy and more choices throughout this course. By the end of the course, students will have created interactive projects and artwork to share with their friends and family.
The instructor for the course is Matthew Mawn, a veteran teacher in the Edison School District. Students will work 1 on 1 with Mr. Mawn throughout the entire duration of the program, using Zoom.
Mr. Mawn has been teaching in Edison for over 8 years, and has taught multiple computer science courses.
The cost of the program is $70 per student, which equates to $7 an hour. Students will have the opportunity to utilize their minds, creative thinking, and problem solving skills before the start of the new school year.
