Description

Dead Broke Farm is looking to hire guides / stable hands. We provide horseback riding for the public: trail rides, pony rides, summer camp, birthday parties. We also do Hindu Indian Weddings and Horse Sales. We have part-time (7:30am - 2pm) any day(s) of the week and full-time (7:30am till we finish) any day(s) of the week. We offer a base pay plus tips. Part-time positions can also be full days but less than 5 days a week. We do need applicants who can work a consistent schedule week-to-week with occasional exceptions for time off or other responsibilities. In those situations, we ask that you work it out with a co-worker to switch out days or cover your days for you in your absence. Candidates will only be considered if they are proficient rider and an experienced horse person. You also need to be able to interact with customers in a polite, friendly manner. Potential hires must have reliable transportation and a cell phone to communicate with other staff members on the farm. Strong preference will be given to nonsmokers and individuals with the motivation to visit our website and come to the working interview with prior knowledge regarding the services we offer. It is strongly recommended that candidates view the 4 videos on our Volunteer Program page of our website to learn how we want things done with respect to bridling, saddling, helping customers to mount/dismount, and untacking. Responsibilities: Feed, water, and hay our horses twice a day Bring horses up from their pastures to prepare them for rides Groom, saddle, and bridle horses Assist customers onto their horses and while out on the trail to ensure a safe and enjoyable riding experience Lead kids on pony rides and birthday parties Spray fence lines for weeds, trail maintenance, and pasture upkeep Maintain our electric fences to ensure our horses are pastured securely Constant upkeep of the stable area to help ensure an attractive working horse farm setting Given the risks associated with taking novice riders and children out on horseback, we require anyone interested to volunteer a half-day in order to try out for a paid position. This allows us to assess your riding skills and horsemanship, and it also provides you with an opportunity to see what a typical day would be like at our farm and to meet the people you'd be working with. This is an ideal position for high school and college students who generally have the summer off and weekends available. So if you're looking for an outdoor, enjoyable job working with horses, please call or text Carla at 919-323-1265 or send an email.
