Description

Come for dinner and stay for the races. This is a fun action packed event that'll keep you on your feet! Mentors For Williams County is excited to host our first fundraiser! It will be an action packed evening that you'll want to bring all of your friends to! What is Night at the Races? It is a fundraising event where you bet with funny money on pre-recorded horse races and then cash in your funny money for raffle tickets to win multiple prizes of your choice. Part of the fun is the creative names the horse sponsors come up with when naming their horse, jockey and owner. What can I expect? When you arrive you'll be given a race programs and $10 funny money. The programs will list all of the races (10), the horses in each race, as well as their odds. A few minutes before each race you go to the betting window to place your bets (with the funny money)on which horse you think will win. The betting window will close and Jim Funderburg will announce the names of the horse, jockey and owner, as well as what the funny money payout will be for the winner of that race. The race is projected on a large screen at one end of the room. Everyone cheers on their horse hoping for it to cross the finish line first. The winning horse is announced and if you're the lucky winner you will go to the payout window(formally the betting window) to collect your funny money winnings. After a few minutes the pay out window will close and the betting window will re-open for the next race. The night continues in this manner for 10 races with a few intermissions for refreshing your adult beverages. Will I need more than $10 funny money? To win more you have to bet more! Just visit the cashier and you can exchange your dollars for funny money. What do I do with my funny money? Your funny money is "cashed in" for raffle tickets. You then place these tickets in the prize bucket of your choice. The more tickets you enter the better the odds! Prizes will be displayed the entire event and are valued over $2,000!
