Description

Get Cash and prizes, have fun connecting with others, and helping a local park We will be meeting up at (Parking Lot located north of The Cove Aquatic at Crawford) 375 S Prairie Creek Rd, Dallas, TX 75217 7:00 - 8:30pm There is a parking lot located just north of The Cove Aquatic at Crawford. The turn off is along N. Prairie Creek Rd. We will be meeting in that parking lot and working along the natural trails down to the creek area. Looking to meet real people, play games, learn cool life hacks, and help make a real positive impact at local parks here in the Metroplex? Today, an average person living in North America or Western Europe consumes 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of plastic each year, mostly in the form of packaging, much of which doesn’t get recycled or is wasted throughout our local parks, offices, schools, and cities. We want to rethink how Dallas Metroplex uses single use plastic and with your help we have a plan to do it. The name of the plan is summed up by L.I.F.E. L - Living I - Intentionally F - For E - Earth We focus on 4 key areas, L.O.V.E. L - Laughing - Playing games or activities, taking on an opportunity with others O - Observing - Taking time to look at our roadmap and ask, what is mine to do? V - Visualize - Make a plan, invite others, create new challenges E - Engage - Do it, Share your stories of success and new insights with the community This program is built for people who really just want to connect and have a good time while leaving the world in a better place. We learn about different sustainable living techniques and continue to contribute dialogue, plan upcoming events, achieve challenges, and share our success stories. This is an open source program and we encourage participants to take the material and add to it as well as using it to create their own events. Our Activity: We are working with Dallas Parks and Recreation to identify and help in the most urgent needs of the communities. They can really use our help with Crawford Memorial Park. Since it is off busy roads and is heavily used by the community, a lot of plastic and non-biodegradable trash has made its way to the water system running through the park. This creates a huge problem for the local wildlife and the maintenance staff is spread thin and is not able to reach a lot of the areas regularly. We are having a Cash For Trash Dash. You can register as a single or as a team. The individual or team that collects the most plastic trash within 45 minutes will get $50 cash(cash and prizes will be awarded for both singles and teams). We will also talk about sustainable living tips that we can start taking into our lives now. Joining our Facebook group so that we can share success stories and help to plan upcoming cleaning Some things to consider when attending: We ask that you please RSVP so we know how many people will attend and plan for materials You can either sign up as an individual or as a team A team can consist of 2-4 people all ages allowed (there is no child care provided) Please dress to be able to walk on natural trails We will provide sticks, bags, and reusable garden gloves. Upcoming Activities: Right now we are looking to continue volunteering at Crawford Memorial Park for the next 5 months and continue to do them the last Saturday of the Month from 7:00 - 8:30pm. So we encourage you to continue to come monthly and work with us in making this a fun way to keep connecting and helping our local area wildlife. We also encourage you to share resources, information, and events within our Facebook Group. Communications Manager
