seeking hotel/motel advice from locals

My family and I are coming to Houston later this month for vacation. Planning on visiting the Houston/Galveston area. Looking for a cheap motel or hotel that isn't roach-infested and is safe. Other than that we aren't picky. Hoping to find something that has a full size refrigerator, or family room, since there are 5 of us, and sometimes that is a cheaper option than getting two rooms. Not having a lot of luck on the typical sites, so I thought maybe a local would have some advice. Thanks!
