An Affinity Space to Connect, Affirm, & Network
Join us for our annual event to celebrate the 2nd Edition of the UpLIFT publication!
In the field of education there are currently about 80,000 black male educators and 114,000 schools.
Despite recent research that shows that black educators have a significant impact on the lives and life trajectory of black students. UpLIFT was designed to celebrate the work of black male educators to offset the many oppressive experiences that black men face in the education sector. The publication reminds and affirms us that we have a very reach and full history that has significantly contributed to the field of education.
In this three-day event, we will be focusing on addressing inequity in schools and the tenets of social justice education to uplift our black students. Attendees will be hearing from a series of speakers: our keynote speaker Abdul Wright, followed by a scholarship showcase from leading educators: Robert Hendricks III, Marcus Flynn, and Dr. Rashid Faisal. We will be using Brauti Kafele’s book The Equity & Social Justice Education to guide our presenters and discussions. We will explore some of Principle Kafele's self-reflective questions to ponder on our own knowledge base of Black existence in America and its significance in our educational system that will impact our students.
