BYRON, CA — Firefighters were battling a wind-fanned brush fire Sunday morning in the hills of the Byron area, where flames scorched 128 acres of vegetation, officials said. Officials halted the forward progress of the fire around noon, reaching 50 percent containment later in the afternoon.
The fire, reported at 9:20 a.m., was raging along Vasco Road and Camino Diablo and fire officials were asking residents to avoid the area, the Alameda County Fire Department said. Vasco Road was closed as firefighters were still making their way to parts of the fire, where smoke shrouded the area.
Fire officials said the blaze was spreading at a moderate rate of speed.
Cal Fire, Livermore and Pleasanton Fire Department and the Contra Costa County Fire Department were responding to the blaze.
