CHICAGO — A man walking outside the Cook County Jail Saturday night was shot and killed, while two women suffered injuries in the shooting.
Chicago police said the 31-year-old man was with a 60-year-old woman around 8:50 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 27th Street, near the Cook County Department of Corrections and just a block from the George Leighton Criminal Courthouse, when two people got out of a car and fired guns, striking them both.
A 35-year-old woman standing nearby suffered a graze wound from the shooting. She and the 60-year-old-woman were both hospitalized in good condition.
The man was shot in the face and chest, and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office had not identified him as of Sunday afternoon. He was "known to police," according to a police narrative of the shooting.
No one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon.
There's no indication the shooting was related to the jail or courthouse.
