Built by Francis and Grace Rhodes in 1882, the corner property at 43 W 4th St is a wonderful example of the amazing historical architecture of Academy Heights - complete with gorgeous woodwork, high ceilings, and Queen Ann style gables.
The house spent the majority of its life as a funeral home, and many in Dunkirk and the surrounding towns came to pay their final respects and heal in the home's warm ambiance. Unfortunately, after its final tenants, Gardnier-Colletti Funeral Home, closed their doors, the Rhodes House sat vacant for over a decade, and time and deterioration have started to take hold.
Thankfully, the house has been sold, and the new owner is going to restore this property to its former glory and beyond. With the large, open first floor, Ivy Rivera, a Taino Arawak, psychic medium, and pastor of Roots Revival InterFaith, will soon open the doors to her spiritual school, The Ivy League Psychic Academy (est 2013), and her church, returning the home to its purpose - healing the community. Restoration filming has begun, and Ivy plans to use her social media influencer status to showcase the history of the house, the town, and surrounding communities to her audience.
Ivy is hosting an OPEN HOUSE for all to come and tour the home before restoration begins.
