SBIR assistance providers often uncover serious missteps in intellectual property (IP) management and contracting, both in Phase I and Phase II contracts. The worst of those missteps can result in a company’s loss of control of key aspects of their IP, effectively hampering or disabling product development and possibly risking the transition to Phase II. One of the most tragic occurrences for an SBIR award winner is a company’s loss of intellectual property (IP) rights through subcontracts and collaborations. In Part I of this series companies learned how to identify and avoid contracting problems that put IP at risk. Participants are encouraged to join the in person meeting early for lunch with the SAGE staff, starting at 1pm.
