Back to School Drive - 1000 Backpacks for The AV Community! We want to use this series of events as an opportunity to reinvest in our community, in our children, and in our families through raising awareness around resources and opportunities that can and will support low income, system impacted, foster care, Black and Brown, youth and young adults in Los Angeles County and more specifically, the Antelope Valley. At this event, we will have guest speakers, celebrity appearances, various press outlets, elected officials, a live DJ, food vendors, resource tables, various giveaway swag bags, school supplies, clothes, shoes, and lots of fun activities. EVERYTHING IS FREE. There are many reasons that we want to do this series of events and one of the biggest concerns of ours is that in Los Angeles County this year alone, 21,589 children were placed in foster homes, group homes, short term residential treatment facilities and other out of home placements. The suicide rate in the Antelope Valley is the highest in Los Angeles County of 11.4%. To add to that the poverty rate for the AV is 42.4% which is very high when it comes to the low income, homeless, and foster youth. It is important for our youth to be connected with caring community members, non profit organizations that will stand with them to be the strong support system they need.
