AUSTIN, TX — Paramount and Stateside Theatres will have more than 270 events planned at its Austin theaters before 2022, authorities said Friday. The theaters announced Friday they are moving away from packaging shows in a traditional season, opting instead to simply continue rolling out the best variety of shows year-round. This includes film, music, comedy, dance, spoken word, magic shows, and even "The Only Former U.S. Senator Currently on Tour," from Al Franken, are on their way for this latter half of 2021, authorities said. "We announced over 50 new events last month alone, and there are no signs of slowing down," said Nick Barbieri, the theaters' chief marketing officer. Another group of events sprinkled in amidst all the new show announcements and 75 Summer Classic Films are shows that were postponed from 2020, which affected over 200 events at the theaters. Comedians Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, known for their work on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", were originally scheduled for March 2020. They will be able to take the Paramount stage on July 24, officials said. More comedy shows are expected throughout July and September. Comedian Mo Amer returns to Austin to perform at Stateside July 30-31, Melissa Villaseñor, who broke barriers by becoming the first-ever Latina cast member of Saturday Night Live, can be seen at Stateside on Aug. 1. Michael Ian Black will return on Aug. 14 for two shows at Stateside and Cap City Comedy Club will presenting multiple shows at Stateside, officials said. Jaime Wyatt & Jamie Lin Wilson kick off the next round of music shows at the theatres when they co-headline at Stateside on Aug. 5. The Quebe Sisters follow with their triple-fiddle and three-part harmony sound at Stateside on Aug. 13. Austin-based supergroup Shinyribs will throw an Album Release Party at the Paramount on Aug. 27 and Reckless Kelly will also play the Paramount on Sept. 3 on the heels of two albums – "American Girls" and "American Jackpot" – released last year. Throughout the summer, film fans continue to head to the Paramount with the 46th annual Summer Classic Film Series presented by CapMetro. Special film events include the 30th anniversary screening of SLACKER in partnership with Austin Film Society, which includes a live reunion Q&A featuring Richard Linklater and original cast and crew.
