Interview 2nd Wave Feminist pioneer

Description

She's in her 80s…time keeps moving along… I'm looking for professors or students or anyone generally interested who might wish to: • go on interview walks with an articulate, compassionate and curious elder of the women's movement (for rigorous research or casual conversation) • help keep history / herstory alive • offer or get academic credit • maybe even start a weekly or monthly discussion group on the development and cultural context of feminism I grew up in academia because that's how my family was oriented. I recently convinced my elderly mother (who is still active and energetic) to move the the Bay Area. She was one of the first academics to create a women's studies program, was a featured speaker at many conferences and colloquia, became a successful academic when such things were rare for women. She then took on the role of top administrator in various institutions so she could take an activist approach to wider social change. She won teaching awards, "hall of fame", board positions, gave congressional testimony, etc. in a wide variety of topical areas. Since she was always too busy teaching, organizing and innovating, she didn't publish much. Though she influenced a lot of people, now I worry that lots of what her generation has to offer will disappear. Whether you are casually interested or academically inclined, I'm hoping to develop opportunities for discussion, mentorship, passing along context, and social/active time for her. She lives right at the Lake so it would be easy to go on walks there. I can answer questions or put you in direct contact. Thank you so much!
