Fort Bend ISD SHAC and FBCPC to host a Back to School Wellness Event to help students transition back to in-person school
Fort Bend ISD SHAC is partnering with Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition to host a Back-to-School Wellness Event at the James Reese Center. This evening event is open to students, staff, parents and the community and will focus on providing health and wellness tips and resources to help with the transition into the new school year. Speakers from Baylor College of Medicine, Fort Bend ISD, and the Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition will address ways to support your child, what to expect, and where to go to get help if needed. Community vendors will also be available to provide additional resources and services for attendees. Spots are limited so make sure you register. Food and drinks will be provided.
The Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition (FBCPC), a program of Fort Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse, Inc., serves a vital role in protecting the health and welfare of youth, families, and community members within the Fort Bend Independent School District service area.
Coalition members of varied backgrounds, levels of expertise and commitment have come together to address factors, such as ease of access to drugs and alcohol, low perception of the risks associated with using, and negative peer influence, that are proven to increase adolescent substance use rates. As a result of these community changes, students’ risk of a host of problems that could threaten their bright futures will be decreased.
By pooling their knowledge and resources, coalition members are effectively and efficiently working to reduce youth access to alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs, and foster a community expectation that youth will stay alcohol and drug free.
