ORANGE, CT — Route 1 eastbound is closed between Lambert Road and Racebrook Road due to flooding caused by the rain and the construction zone as Tropical Storm Elsa passes through the area Friday morning, according to police. Police said on Facebook traffic is being rerouted via Indian River Road and South Lambert Road. "Tropical Storm Elsa is impacting our area now and will be with us for several more hours," police said on Facebook. "Heavy rainfall is expected and may cause localized flooding. Windy conditions, with gusts up to 40 MPH, may be possible which can result in downed trees." Police remind residents never to cross a flooded roadway or attempt to drive over or under downed trees or wires. They also ask residents not to ignore or drive around "road closed" signs, as they are there for residents' safety. Residents can call the Orange Police Department at 203-891-2130 to report any hazards or dial 911 in an emergency. Power outages can be reported directly to United Illuminating at 800-722-5584.
