Six Flags Mass Vaccination Site Will Close This Weekend

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — The mass vaccination site at Six Flags America will close after Saturday's appointments, Gov. Larry Hogan reminded. The Upper Marlboro facility opened Feb. 5 and has since administered 339,087 doses. The clinic immunized 5,000 patients per day at its peak. "Ramping up these mass vaccination sites as fast as we did helped us crush the curve one last time," Hogan said in a Friday press release. "These sites became models for other states and countries to follow." The Six Flags location was one of 13 high-volume sites around the state. Hogan has gradually closed these centers over the past month as inoculation demand started to diminish. Schrader added in the release. "The speed in which state agencies coalesced to stand up the 13 sites and the way they were professionally managed and operated helped us efficiently vaccinate hundreds of thousands of Marylanders." About 75 percent of Maryland adults have gotten at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The state ranks sixth in the country with nearly 69 percent of adults fully immunized. Marylanders can get a shot at one of 724 pharmacies by visiting covidvax.maryland.gov or calling the multilingual call center at 1-855-MD-GOVAX. "The most lasting legacy of the sites may be the individual stories of the people who received life-saving vaccines, and how much those moments meant to them and their families," Hogan concluded. "I want to especially thank everyone who was involved in building these sites, and all the nurses, volunteers, and National Guard members who staffed them rain or shine."
