Responsible for supporting and contributing to the overall Quality Assurance and Food Safety Programs under the Laboratory Manager or designated supervisor. Responsibilities include enforcing the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), executing production line checks, sampling program, filing out appropriate paperwork efficiently and correctly and any other projects as assigned. Primary Focus • Run routine analysis on incoming fruit at receiving and in mill processing. Testing includes but is not limited to: maturity index of olives, weights, flesh to pit, fat and moisture analysis by near-infrared spectrometer, free fatty acid titration, peroxide value titration, karl fisher (water content) titration, pH. • Ability to work with laboratory chemicals to conduct various titrations and analysis. • Responsible for helping in the maintenance of the laboratory which includes cleaning, organizing, and inventory. • Effectively work with production personnel to aid in the overall goals of the company, including maintaining GMP’s, assure product is produced and released within specification. • Ensure Food Safety and Work Instructions/ Procedure training is followed accordingly to comply with regulatory & Safe Quality Food (SQF) • Comply with all COR, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), HACCP, and SQF regulations. • Responsible for following and enforcing the Good Manufacturing Practice’s (GMP’s) across the company. • Aid with all QA functions of checks during milling season. • Maintain QA line checks for production runs, including assuring product is within specifications, correct code dates, correct label placement. • Execute sampling procedure during harvest. • Responsible for helping in the maintenance of the laboratory which includes cleaning, organizing, and inventory. • Aid with all QA functions of checks during milling season. • Execute sampling procedure during harvest. • Interact and effectively communicate with various groups which may include representatives of growers, trucking companies, other internal departments, etc. and to conduct oneself in a professional manner. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • Four-year science related degree a plus, or showing that degree is in process. • High School graduate or GED preferred. • Experience in a laboratory setting preferred. • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English. • Valid California Driver’s License. • Ability to work varying hours, some weekends, and varying schedules. Must possess mobility to work in a food manufacturing facility, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone. This is a primary food manufacturing facility classification, commonly standing in work areas. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. This position requires standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling and reaching. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects, up to 40 pounds, as necessary to perform job functions. Ability to regularly lift loads up to 40lbs, occasionally maneuver loads up to 50 lbs, rarely maneuver loads up to 60 lbs. This is a seasonal position.
