Description
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Authorities in Libertyville tracked down a Waukegan teen who led an officer on a chase, eventually getting away after being involved in a crash, police said.
Police said they first observed a vehicle speeding while headed south on North Butterfield Road near Ridgewood Lane at about 4:10 p.m. on June 18. An officer turned on his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car kept going, fleeing from the officer, according to the police report.
The officer stopped pursuing the vehicle, and a short time later, received a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle he'd just attempted to pull over. The crash occurred in the general area where he'd tried to make the traffic stop, authorities said.
Authorities identified the driver as Luis Ramirez, of the 2200 block of North Northern Avenue in Waukegan, and said they found damage on his vehicle that made it appear it had been in a crash.
Ramirez was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing to elude an officer, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic control device.
His bail was set at $500, and he was turned over to the Kane County Jail.
