I-75 Reopened After Early Morning Shooting

DETROIT — A Detroit freeway has reopened after being closed for several hours Friday morning as Michigan State Police investigated a shooting. Police closed the southbound lanes of I-75 at I-96 pending an investigation of an early morning shooting Friday, police authorities said. The southbound lanes were reopened shortly before 8 a.m. According to the state police, a trooper was patrolling southbound I-75 near Clark Avenue when they heard gunfire coming from behind their vehicle. Two SUVs passed the police cruiser in the right lane at a high rate of speed, police said. Troopers turned on their lights and sirens to try and stop the vehicles, but the drivers did not stop and fled the area, police said. One vehicle lost a tire while fleeing and stopped on I-75, near Dearborn, according to police. The vehicle had several bullet holes in the windshield and back of the vehicle, police said. The other SUV was last seen on I-75, police said.
