Northport Reopens Union Chapel Road After Storm Culvert Repairs

NORTHPORT, AL — The City of Northport has reopened Union Chapel Road after closing a stretch for additional storm culvert repairs following an extensive flooding event on June 19. The road was first closed June 28 after being temporarily reopened. The City of Northport said work was completed a day ahead of schedule on Friday, which allowed the city to reopen the road a day sooner than expected. The project is just one of several being addressed by the city following the flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Claudette. A state of emergency was declared by the city in the days following the flooding and the City Council has freed up $1.25 million to be put toward immediate and necessary infrastructure repairs. As Patch reported earlier this week, emergency officials said roughly $3 million in damage was done to personal and public property on June 19.
