Additional Awards Leadership and most valuable player awards for boys high school lacrosse also were presented by Metzger this season. The James C. Metzger Leadership Awards reflect the tenacity, honesty, commitment and positive attitude required in Nassau lacrosse. Each recipient also possesses the ability to inspire others on and off the field. The awards were presented at the Nassau County Championship games on June 15 and 16. Metzger also provided the funding for the most valuable player awards presented at the county championship games. Leadership awards for players at the Suffolk County Championships were suspended this year due to scheduling conflicts related to COVID-19. The awards are expected to be revived for the 2022 season. Long Island Championship Most Valuable Player Awards in the four classes between Nassau and Suffolk high schools were presented to face-off specialist Tyler Kuprianchik of Northport High School, midfielder Albert Paniccia of Friends’ Academy of Locust Valley, goalie Drew Quinn of Garden City High School and Mt. Sinai’s Joey Spallina. Half Hollow Hills East Award Sam Rothman of Half Hollow Hills High School East was named Suffolk All-County and received the team's coveted James C. Metzger Outstanding Player Award. Hempstead Awards Many awards were presented for the fifth and sixth graders who participated in this season's Hempstead PAL lacrosse program. The James C. Metzger Award is presented each year to a player for "his strong work ethic and improvement made throughout the lacrosse season." Metzger, who has supported the program for a decade, presented the 2021 award to Stephen Love II and enjoyed the opportunity to talk with all the players and their families about the many opportunities the game provides by opening doors for lacrosse student-athletes in high school, college and later in life.
