Looking for Guitar and Keyboard

Sarasota FL

Description

Experienced horn section looking to add lead guitar and keyboard for local rehearsals. We already play together in another band. That band reformed after the death from cancer of more than one member during the last few years, including the bandleader. We still are members of our old band. That band is complete and booking ahead for this year. Some of us are interested in moving towards newer music as a fun side project. Looking at the possibility of a 2nd band. We are professional with full time jobs. We rehearse as professionals and hold no delusions about the viability of venues and booking a larger group in the SRQ area. Looking to experience a more solid Latin feel on modern music. (Pop, Pock, Latin vocal and dance). We expect advance preparation as rehearsals are to make the band sound good with members attending for the benefit of others in the band. This is not a jam band rehearsal nor a "read it down" rehearsal. The expectation is advanced learning, independent practice and preparation. For that we need a keyboard player that understands a MONTUNO and likes the feel of basic Afro/Cuban rhythms. The guitar player needs to be able to follow a basic chart. Bands with horns read charts. So it’s not a jam band. We would like to experience an Americanized feel for Latin. “I love Latin music” while the guitar lays down a blues riff is not what we are looking for. We are seasoned performers looking to expand or horizons by not playing the same old charts the same old way. An acoustic guitar with a Latin sound might work as well as a straight up piano/keyboard player with a Latin foundation. |Keys and lead guitar would complete this rehearsal band. The rehearsal room is fully equipped with bass / guitar amplifiers, microphones, PA, stands, chairs, drums, congas, timbali, and a full size 88key electronic piano keyboard with velocity sensitive touch. We even own staging and equipment trailers. Who we are: Several of us were part of a band with original roots from Memphis. Currently our new (reformed band) was just starting to perform after the death of the bandleader when gigs were stopped because of COVID. This is an example of what we were doing in the past and will continue in the future. (In the Tampa area) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbbHsOS6CfM Some of us from the Sarasota area are looking to become proficient in Latin based (Afro Cuban) music as a side project and play to keep our chops. The Latin fundamental band would be a rehearsal band. Meaning, American style music with a more Latin feel. A feel for polyrhythms, 2/3 3/2 rhythms, clave rhythms (played or implied) and Montunos are part of what we are looking to create. We have our own equipment and rehearsal room in Sarasota and are vaccinated, drama and drug free, fully employed, musically experienced. … and expect the same in this rehearsal band. The effect we look for is a low volume mix that is fully electric, but balanced in a PA delivery. If we ever play out it will be with a front/line back line system.
