Help Wanted Vineyard Work Burnbrae Vineyards in Forest, Virginia is looking for employees to assist the vineyard supervisor working at a newly established vineyard. The site sits in the Piedmont region of Va with the backdrop of the Peaks of Otter Mountains. Burnbrae Vineyards is a family operation located on a 250 ac farm with 10 acres initially dedicated to grape production. Because the vineyard is young with first plantings having occurred in Spring 2019 and the first harvest anticipated for this year, someone interested in a learning viticulture can gain experience in the early stages of a vineyard. Responsibilities • Specialized vineyard tasks to include: pruning, tying, suckering/shoot thinning, weeding, trellis maintenance, leaf & fruit thinning, and vineyard layout • Perform various routine maintenance tasks to include: trellis repair, hoeing, drainage repair, erosion control and site preparation. • Ability to operate tractors and tractor implements to accomplish various vineyard practices such as mowing, spraying and trimming. • Must have the ability to perform light equipment maintenance. Responsible for notifying owners when equipment requires service or repair. • Operate light equipment such as weed eaters, backpack sprayers and chain saws when necessary. • Apply canopy and herbicide sprays following established safety procedures and instruction. • Follow safe operating systems and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team members’ safety. Requirements: • Disciplined work ethic • Understanding of vineyard/farm management equipment, practices, and procedures • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evening duties, and periodic overtime with advance notice • Ability to use a computer for basic reporting of activities, production data, and weather forecasting; • Ability to work independently • Must have a valid VA Driver’s License • Speaking both English and Spanish is a plus • Knowledge of basic mechanics and high school graduate level or above; geometry and algebra is a plus. Physical Requirements/Work Environment • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in varied weather conditions. Must be comfortable in inclement weather. • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 60 pounds. • Working conditions in some areas of the vineyard are hot, windy, wet and slippery. Exposure to wildlife is likely. • Occasionally required to climb ladders. • Frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, standing, crouching and bending are required.
