Join us for the WORLD PREMIERE of "La Manplesa", a film honoring the history of the 1991 Mount Pleasant Uprising. We are thrilled to present the WORLD PREMIERE screening of the documentary film, La Manplesa: An Uprising Remembered, at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in Washington, DC on Wednesday, July 21! 🎥🎉 The event is open to the public and will begin at 7:00pm ET at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in Washington, DC (3333 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20010). Attendees are asked to RSVP with a suggested $20 donation or pay what you can option. The event will open with a reception in the lobby including food, artwork, community partners, and live screen printing. The premiere screening will begin at 8:00pm ET, opening with live performances from local poets and musicians and followed by a panel and Q&A with the memory keepers and filmmaker. Local non-profit organizations, community groups, and vendors will be present and the event will be hosted by poet, actor, community activist, and producer for the film, Quique Avilés. Live performances include 2021 Montgomery County Youth Poet Laureate Sasa Aakil, Pepe Gonzalez, Sami Miranda, Lilo Gonzalez, and Luci Murphy. *While masks are not required, attendees are encouraged to abide by masks and social distancing guidance set forth by the CDC.
