Introducing newly appointed composer-in-residence, Leonardo Ciampa.
Leonardo Ciampa, Composer-in-Residence, performs his world premiere of Carusiana in honor of the 100th anniversary of Enrico Caruso's Death. He is joined by Giovanni Formisano, a tenor who like Caruso hails from Naples, is going to sing several arias and songs, in Italian and Neapolitan, that were closely associated with Caruso.
August 2nd, 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Enrico Caruso, who died in Naples on August 2, 1921. Leonardo Ciampa was commissioned to compose a piano piece called "Carusiana." It is a set of seven variations that depict the final months of the great tenor's life. The theme is the “Crucifixus” from Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, which was the last music that Caruso ever recorded. The last words of this haunting aria are "et sepultus est" – "and he was buried." Rossini's theme runs through each of the variations.
The concert will be FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC but will simultaneously be broadcast on YouTube.
