Commissioner Arrington's Annual It Takes A Village Back to School Events & Student Competition My office looks forward to serving our communities with the kick-off of the 2021-2022 school year with our seventh annual It Takes A Village Back to School events. Due to the ongoing difficulties with the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s events will be drive-thru deliveries of backpacks with school supplies and masks. Vaccinations will be available for those 12 and under administered by the Fulton County Board of Health. Unvaccinated participants are required to wear masks and all participants must register in advance. The scheduled locations and times for the “It Takes A Village” distribution events include: Wolf Creek Library, East Point Library & Mechanicsville Library. Please RSVP for an “It Takes A Village” event. Backpacks with supplies and masks will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis to those who RSVP. Residents need to have ID to verify residency. You will only receive goods at one site, please do not travel to the other locations. College students who live in District 5 write essays to win book scholarships. Prizes: Book Scholarships (1st Prize:$500, 2nd Prize: $350, 3rd Prize: $150) Topic: What should voting and elections look like in the 21st century? Should it be easier to vote or harder? What should be done differently and what should be improved? Should the age to vote change? How should technology be used in voter registrations and elections? Considering those questions, write a 1500 word essay about what you believe voting and elections should look like. Guidelines: The participant must be a student currently enrolled in COLLEGE, from rising freshmen to rising seniors. Parents must be residents of Fulton County District 5. · Essays must be 1500 words, typed, and saved as a PDF. Must include reference page with at least 10 sources. Use APA writing style. · Use Arial 12pt font and double space. Every page should have name and page number. · Cover page includes: first and last names as it appears on your drivers license or ID, your home address, date of birth, and your college. · No pictures or graphics. · Essays are due by Friday, July 23, 2021. · Winners will be announced and awarded book scholarships at the It Takes A Village Back to School Giveaway, Friday, July 31, 2021 at the Mechanicsville Library at 11:00am-12:00pm.
