Description

Artists and Cultural Workers Reimagining, Creating, and Preserving the Cultural Infrastructure of Oakland. The 2020-2021 Cultural Space Ambassadors are emerging, mid-career, and established BIPOC artists and cultural workers whose work explores innovative space preservation models. Their expertise ranges from mural-making, movement, and textiles to Afro-futurist prototyping, fundraising, and organizing to heritage & traditional culture practices, native arts and culture, and more… CSAs represent the Oakland arts ecosystem across artistic disciplines, geography, business models, space type, ownership status, leadership status (including new & emergent voices), Oakland rootedness, and demography. Meet the CSAs in-person and hear directly from them on how they are working across three pillars: DOCUMENTATION: How might artists and cultural workers document past, current, and future data that creates a forum for knowledge-sharing, road mapping, engagement, and accountability for future visioning?ACTIVISM: How might artists and cultural workers activate and build momentum towards common goals within the existing movement for growing and sustaining art and cultural infrastructure in Oakland?PLACE/SPACE: How might artists and cultural workers amplify existing and upcoming placekeeping projects through communication tools, mediums, and networks?Plese note: This is an outdoor event. The program is 10:30am-12pm. CSA Pillar Booths will be open from 10am-3pm and will be located in the back of Liberation Park near the green space. Food vouchers will be available! Gratitude to the Black Cultural Zone for hosting us! Community Arts Stabilization Trust was established on the belief that the arts drive dynamic, vibrant, and diverse communities. Founded in 2013, CAST is a nonprofit that creates long-term solutions to acquire, develop, and provide safe, affordable workspaces for artists and arts organizations in San Francisco, Oakland, and other urban settings. Bringing together technical assistance, real estate expertise, and innovative financing vehicles, CAST leverages public-private sector partnerships to execute its mission and goals.
