Forgotten Spirits: Paducah's Contributions to Bourbon Forgotten Spirits: Paducah's Contributions to Bourbon is a new downtown guided walking tour that focuses on Paducah's rich connections to the bourbon industry. Participants will learn the history of bourbon brands connected to Paducah, their founders, and the contributions of African Americans and Jewish and Italian immigrants who helped build Paducah's bourbon industry. Walk in the footsteps of Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, Joseph Friedman, John Keiler, Leslie B. Samuels, and Bill Samuels, whose iconic bourbon brands still dominate shelves today. The 0.7 mile low-intensity tour is 60 minutes, wheelchair accessible, and features nine stops along the scenic streets of Paducah's downtown and riverfront. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to check in or purchase your tickets. Paducah is an Entertainment Destination Center which allows patrons to carry alcohol in an approved cup from a participating downtown restaurant or bar. Feel free to purchase a beverage beforehand and bring it with you on the tour! Tours go on rain or shine, please dress for the weather. In the event of severe weather, we will contact you to reschedule. Afterwards, visit Barrel and Bond to purchase a bourbon flight of brands discussed on the tour. *Tour ticket price does not include the price of the bourbon flight, which is only available at Barrel and Bond. About the creators: Richard and Emily Parker Richard is the vice president of the Jackson Purchase Historical Society and has earned degrees in history from Murray State University and Western Kentucky University. His upcoming book, Wicked Western Kentucky, features Isaac Wolfe Bernheim's early years in Paducah and moonshiners of Western Kentucky. Richard is a speaker for the Kentucky Humanities Council and his writings and presentations have contributed to several Kentucky History Awards. Emily is a native of Paducah who has been a public servant for seven years. She studied German education at Murray State University and performed in numerous theater productions at the university. Emily has been involved in theater performances for over 20 years with the Market House Theater, Badgett Playhouse, and local schools. Her outstanding oration and knack for bringing stories to life will keep you yearning to hear more about Paducah's bourbon heritage.
