PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead's C.A.R.E. program is now offering an in-person summer session for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The free summer session began Tuesday and will be held for six weeks, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. C.A.R.E. — managed and supervised by the Viscardi Center — is a year-round, full-day respite and recreation program for North Hempstead residents ages 8 and older with developmental disabilities, according to officials. The program aims to provide opportunities for participants to socialize and explore their communities through activities and excursions. Past activities included cooking and swimming classes, as well as community outings to bowling alleys and movie theaters. To be eligible for the program, individuals must be supported through the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, have a TAB number, and be screened for admission.
