BROOKLYN, NY — For the first time since 2019, the Red Hook waterfront will transform into an international race track with the return of the Formula E tournament. The NYC E-Prix, an electric car racing tournament, will return to the borough this weekend after taking a year off during the coronavirus crisis. The Formula E tournament, which has also been held in far-off spots like Monaco or Paris, has been holding its final round of races in the borough since 2017. Here's everything you need to know whether you're going to the race, or want to avoid the slew of street closures it will bring: What is Formula E? Formula E is the first racing series to use single-seat electric cars that produce zero emissions. The cars can reach 140 miles per hour in under three seconds, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation. For its 2021 return, there will be more races than ever before in a single season, comprising 15 races in eight cities, covering three continents. New York City will host to Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. When Will It Happen? The racers will set up at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal for a double header on July 10 and 11, according to the schedule. What Streets Will Be Closed?
