CLEARWATER, FL, US, July 7, — In honor of the 4th of July, the Clearwater Community Volunteers hosted an Independence Day celebration for 170 children and their parents. The festivities began at 4 p.m. with guests invited to enjoy fun activities like made-to-order hot dogs, several arts and crafts stations and a raffle. “This event was inspired by a quote from a founding father, John Adams, about the celebration of Independence Day,” said Gertie Perry, Activities Director for the Clearwater Community Volunteers Center. “He said: ‘It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parades, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more.’ So we celebrated this day with games, sports and a show for all to enjoy!” Visitors stayed for hours beating the Florida summer heat inside the CCV Center’s Café-style Gathering Space before heading out to the Osceola Courtyard where family fun awaited. Activities included a hula-hoops contest, build and fly your own foam glider, make you own American flag and live music. “It was so much fun having this event,” said Walter Evans, a Clearwater resident. “It was nice to enjoy a hot dog and a snow cone while the kids were playing around and making crafts”. Participants were given “passports” to take to each participating. For every booth visited, the guests received a chance to enter a prize drawing. Prize winners selected their prizes, including gift baskets and gift cards for downtown Clearwater restaurants. “The 4th of July meant freedom for the United States in 1776.” said Perry “Working to uplift our community and those who live within it is vital to maintaining that freedom. “ The CCV center is located on the corner of N. Fort Harrison Ave. and Drew St. of downtown Clearwater and hosts community and non-profit events on an on-going basis.
