HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — The 10th Annual Suffolk County Legislative Pet Food Drive, held recently in Huntington Station, was a "sweeping success," said Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D — Huntington Station). Residents donated pet food, toys and other supplies for pet owners in need when Donnelly opened his district office in Huntington Station as a drop-off to benefit Baxter's Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares from February through May. LI Cares founded Baxter's Pet Pantry in 2009 after hearing about families who were unable to afford pet food, veterinary care and/or other services and were faced with no other choice but to put their pets up for adoption. Baxter's Pet Pantry also provides toys, pet clothes, feeding bowls, cat litter and other pet supplies, all of which were donated through the drive. "Families should never have to decide between feeding themselves and feeding their cherishedpets," Donnelly stated via news release. "I salute everyone at Long Island Cares for all they do, and was happy to have this opportunity to help them continue to help pet owners. I am so grateful to our generous neighbors for their care and kindness." Donnelly's office will continue to accept donations of pet food, according to the release. While 5 and 10-pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets. All items must be unopened. If you are interested, you can call 631-854-4433.
