Drunk Driver Collides With Ambulance: Nassau Police

EAST MEADOW, NY — A Woodbury woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after Nassau County police said she collided with an ambulance while driving drunk. At 2:30 p.m., the Nassau County ambulance was on the Hempstead Turnpike transporting someone to the hospital when it was hit by a 2017 BMW sedan driven by Erica Schweitzer, 49, of Fair Haven Boulevard, Woodbury, police said. She was turning onto the turnpike from Merrick Avenue, police said. No one was hurt in the crash, police said. Schweitzer was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic violations. She was scheduled to be arraigned later Thursday.
