Juanita Beach Reopens To Swimmers After Weeklong Closure

KIRKLAND, WA — Swimmers are welcome back to Kirkland's Juanita Beach Park one week after elevated bacteria levels prompted the city to close swimming areas through the July 4 weekend. Officials announced the closure on June 30 after water quality teams found bacteria levels along the eastern shore were higher than the threshold. Warning signs were posted during the closure, all people and pets were advised to avoid contact with water until further notice. King County's Water and Land Resources Division returned to test the water on Tuesday and found levels had returned to the safe range, officials announced Wednesday evening. Water quality teams routinely test King County's beach waters through summer to ensure safety and will check on Juanita every week. Lifeguards will be on duty Thursday to watch over swimmers at the beach between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Updated information on water quality alerts for King County's lakes is available online.
