Seamstress/Sewist - Charlotte, NC - Full-Time Hours: Monday - Friday 7am - 4pm  Hourly Rate $17.00 per hour COMPANY BACKGROUND Smarte Carte, Inc. is the leading concessionaire of self-serve vended luggage carts, electronic lockers, commercial strollers and massage chairs, as well as other passenger and guest services.   Smarte Carte is headquartered in St. Paul, MN and has operations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Singapore. BASIC FUNCTION The Seamstress / Sewist is responsible for manufacturing high-quality, and durable, upholstery items for our mobility (wheelchair) line of business. These upholstery items include, but are not limited to, wheelchair seats and backs, belts, and straps. Seamstress / Sewist will be well-versed in industrial sewing machine knowledge, to include machine troubleshooting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the General Manager- will maintain adequate levels of inventory for high volume upholstery items. Ensure prioritization of needed items based on inventory levels and current trends in usage. Provide Quality Control on all upholstery items manufactured in-house. Ensuring that sewing machine, and other equipment, are in good working order. Ability to troubleshoot, and remedy, common sewing machine errors and repairs. Constructing items in accordance with proper specifications, and customers preferences. Maintain sufficient levels of materials needed by notifying manager on when materials need to be ordered. Willingness to provide warehouse and office assistance, where needed, as determined by General Manager. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated/Proven sewing knowledge. Sound knowledge of various fabrics, threads, needles, and sewing techniques. Ability to work under time constraints. The ability to use different types of sewing machines. Effective communication skills. Very detail oriented. Ability to work in a collaborative environment. Experience and understanding of sewing heavy duty materials- such as multiple layers of vinyl, leather, webbing, and plastic is preferred.
