HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. INCIDENTS CRIMINAL DAMAGE Two unidentified people were spotted around 8:30 p.m. on June 29 etching onto a newly poured concrete adjacent to the 1500 block of Oakwood Avenue, drawing a circle with a heart inside and the message, "Hello have a nice day."Someone damaged the window pane on the south door of the train station depot at 10 St. Johns Avenue at some point prior to 12:30 p.m. on July 5, leaving a 2-foot-high crack.BIKE THEFTS Someone stole a possibly unlocked silver men's Trek bicycle of unspecified value from the northeast corner of Sunset Woods Skate Park, 1801 Sunset Road, at some point prior to 5:45 p.m. on July 1.Sometime between 2:30 p.m. July 4 and 1:30 a.m. July 5 someone stole a white Trek, 21-speed mountain bike with light green accessories valued at $200 that had been locked to a bike rack with a combination lock. TRAILER THEFTA U-Haul trailer worth about $3,000 was reported missing after the rental location at 3080 Skokie Valley closed on May 1, but it was not know when it was stolen. SHOPLIFTINGA man stole a black leather Brooks saddle worth $175 from the Trek store at 1925 Skokie Valley Road prior to 3:15 p.m. July 5. He got into the back seat of a dark-colored Ford waiting in the parking lot, police were told. ARRESTS Deonte M. Lawal, 22, of the 300 block of Walker Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on June 30 and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault to a peace officer, aggravated battery and resisting arrest. No further information about the incident that led to the encounter was immediately available from police. Dorin G. Pop, 35, of the 9400 block of Forestview Road, Evanston, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on July 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage. Stephanie N. Mallory, 35, of the 700 block of Sheridan Avenue, Park City, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on July 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after police were called to Bucky's Express, 1333 Half Day Road, for a report that someone who had been asked to leave was involved in an argument there. Officers found Mallory in her car attempting to drive away.
