Millions Coming To Greenwich Village From NYC's 2022 Budget

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The record-high $99 billion budget passed by the City Council last week includes millions of dollars flowing to Greenwich Village and the West Village. Billed as a "recovery budget" by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Speaker Corey Johnson, the spending package for the 2022 fiscal year — which starts Oct. 1 of this year — was bolstered by billions of dollars in federal stimulus funds. In addition to major citywide items, like $4 million for CUNY scholarships, the budget also includes smaller neighborhood funding. While Johnson obviously had a larger role to play in the budget with his work as the Speaker, he also oversaw these smaller neighborhood funds coming to Greenwich Village and West Village within his district. Patch reviewed budget documents and picked out some notable neighborhood funds from Johnson. The below list also includes a few projects not specifically within Greenwich Village or West Village, but are close enough that residents in the neighborhoods could likely use them.
