ALEA Gives Holiday Weekend Updates On Fatalities, DUI Arrests

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) provided stats this week from a busy Fourth of July holiday weekend, saying 10 people, including two Northport residents, were killed statewide in vehicle crashes from Friday, July 2 to Monday at midnight. While ALEA says the roads were busy, thankfully there were no boating fatalities or drownings on the state's waterways. In terms of arrests, ALEA's Marine Patrol Division reported 10 boating under the influence arrests and 81 DUI arrests. Deadly crashes were reported in Lawrence, Talladega, Winston, Marengo, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Chilton and Clarke counties. In Pickens County, two people were killed on Sunday — including Northport preschool teacher Andrea Burrage, 19 — in a two-vehicle crash on Alabama Highway 159 in Gordo. The victim was identified as 36-year-old Audra Rogers — a Northport mother of four who was expecting another child. ALSO READ: Family Remembers Northport Mother Of Four Killed In Tragic Crash Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene, while all four of her children and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
