Giant Butterflies Have Invaded The Village Green For A Good Cause

RYE, NY — The giant, colorful aluminum and steel butterflies spreading their wings in town this summer aren't just nice to look at — they are also helping to support educational programs and scholarships for students in the area. The butterflies are part of the Rye'sAbove public art project from the Rotary Club of Rye and The Rye Arts Center. While the butterfly art is just plain fun for most of us, organizers say the goal of the installation is to uplift the community through the arts while supporting educational programs in the region at the same time. Artists transformed aluminum and steel sculptures into original works of art. The larger butterflies are displayed on the Rye Village Green where they will remain on display all summer long. Dozens of smaller butterflies are also on display in storefront windows around town. Much like real butterflies, the winged sculptures will fly away as cooler weather approaches, but that doesn't mean you have to say farewell to your favorite piece of butterfly art. The butterfly sculptures are now available for purchase in an online auction. The proceeds from the live auction will be used to support educational programs and scholarships for students in the Hudson Valley.
