Processor for a longliner Catcher Processor
Jobs
Unalaska AK
Description
The Baranof is looking to fly crew to Dutch Harbor approx., July 20th, when the date is finalized there will be no changes as the boat will only be in Dutch Harbor for one day. The contract is for approx. 3 months or 3 trips, whichever date is closest to the time the vessel is in port. The vessel comes into Dutch Harbor after each trip to offload and resupply, each trip is approx. 3-4 weeks depending on a lot of factors which a lot of we have no control over, a trip can last longer, up to 5 weeks but that is rare and does not happen that often, that is fishing! Currently our website is under construction, if you would like to apply, for a position, please respond to this email and I will send you an application. When responding by email, lease write your email and full name in the body of the email as Craigslist does not give me your email address and I cannot forward an attachment to theirs. Eventually I will need your full name and Date of Birth for plane tickets. Thank you for your interest in our company. Here is a bit of the lowdown so you have a better idea of what this job consists of… We are a Drug Free company. What does that mean? Per Coast Guard Regulations, you cannot have Federally Illegal Drugs in your system or possession of drugs on the boat even if you are currently not using them. You ask, what about Marijuana that is legal in Washington and Alaska, right. Yes and no. Marijuana is legal is several states now, but that is only on the state level not federal. DOT Drug Tests are federal. Per DOT Coast Guard regulations, you cannot have any federally illegal drugs in your system when you board the boat and sign your contract. There are several reason you could be asked to take a DOT drug test. You do not want to fail that test, it goes on your permanent record and you will have to go through a couple years’ worth of programs to clear your name, that means you cannot work anywhere with a DOT program in the country. You will not be able to work anywhere that will have you driving a vehicle, equipment or be on a boat, there are a lot more restrictions. The F/V Baranof is a long-liner catcher processor cod and crab vessel. This job consists of a multitude of tasks which can change from day to day as the fishing demands or the Captain of the vessel sees fit. Shifts are 16+ hours per day, seven (7) days a week, with a minimum 90 day contract (3 trips). Advancement opportunities are also available. We value crew members who work hard, are excellent team players and are interested in a career in the seafood industry. However, you have to prove yourself to the crew and work hard. The work environment may be cold, wet, and noisy, and will require the employee to work repetitively with hands, wrists and elbows while standing. This will most likely be the toughest job you have ever had. All crewmembers are responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment. Duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Heading, cutting and gutting fish. Cleaning and cooking crab. 2. Packing the cleaned seafood into pans and loading into freezers. 3. Packaging up product after 1st freezing process to be stored down in the ship's hold securely. 4. General clean-up of vessel and the vessel's warehouse in Dutch Harbor when deemed necessary by officers and factory foreman. 5. Offloading operations in town (usually Dutch Harbor, AK). This is typically done by transferring product off vessel by offload belts into shipping containers or by loading onto trampers at sea. 6. Back loading supplies. Processors will also be involved with the back loading of supplies in town such as bait, food, and fiber. You may be eligible for a draw after you have completed one full trip and there is no guarantee. If this is something you are still interested and available for, please return the attached application via email or fax it.. Looking forward to hearing from you.
