The Sexton at serves the church as part of our church ministry by primarily: • Performing a morning check of the building at 7am each day • Ensuring that the breezeway and sidewalk are clear of any tripping hazards or other liability issues as well as pick up any obvious garbage and put in bags by receptacles • Maintain a weekly log and submit to the office The Sexton job may also include the following circumstantial jobs as the need arises: • Replace batteries in fire/smoke alarms as needed if Trustees are not available • Coordinate events for the orchard and garden with orchardist and various organizations. As work parties are scheduled, ask Office Administrator to put on the church calendar and put in Friday Update • In the event of a snow/ice storm, make arrangements for snow removal from the parking lot and walkways • Communicate plumbing, power outages, furnace, and other internal maintenance issues to the Trustees. In an emergency, communicate to Office Administrator • Communicate property issues, landscaping and groundskeeping issues to the Trustees • Organize carpet cleaning, floor waxing, and other general upkeep as well as get bids • Know when to and be able to respond to emergencies on the property The Sexton needs to be able to arrive on the property at 7am each morning, and they should have availability to respond to emergencies. Because of that, it is preferable that the Sexton lives in the Parkrose/Gateway area. The Sexton should be comfortable working with a wide variety of people from differing backgrounds. And the Sexton should have proven ability to work independently, and they should be someone who remains calm in a crisis. WORK SCHEDULE: This position is guaranteed to be 7 hours per week, up to 10 hours as the need arises. There is the possibility of later expanding the position’s responsibilities into organizing building rentals and events, which will add additional work hours. Wages are contracted at $20 per hour.
