We are so thrilled to welcome Julie of Smith Rock Cactus Co. to the shop to teach us all about cold hardy cacti that you can plant outdoors!
Join us at 5:30pm for complimentary drinks, followed by a talk by Julie at 6pm.
A little background about Smith Rock Cactus Company: As fans of the desert southwest, they wanted to make a "cactus garden" that they could enjoy here in Central Oregon. However, finding cactus that will survive our cold winters was the issue. After trial and error, plus a ton of research, they now have over 57 different varieties that do very well year after year.
Smith Rock Cactus Company opened its doors in the summer of 2017. Since then, they have continued to grow and expand their cactus garden.
Some topics Julie will address:
*Soil requirements
*Rainfall vs. watering
*Transplanting & Placement of newly acquired plants
*Flowers, fruits, and pruning as plants grow
*What happens to cactus in our winters?*Growth habits
*Varieties for Central Oregon - prickly pear (opuntias) cholla (cylindropuntia) mountain ball (pediocactus) claret cup & hedgehogs (echinocereus)
If you've ever wanted to landscape with cacti or have a cactus collection that will survive a Central Oregon winter, you don't want to miss this talk.
This event is free but we do ask that you RSVP.
