Description

The Smoky Mountains peloton is rolling through DC on July 18th. Meet the riders and find out why they're riding this summer. Join us at DC Brau on Sunday evening, July 18th to meet an inspiring group of students riding across the US this summer to fight cancer. The riders of Texas 4000 for Cancer's Smoky Mountains route will be rolling into the nation's capital on day 44 of their 70 day journey through the eastern US. During the evening we'll enjoy a few cold brews and toast the riders as they share a bit of what fuels them through this monumental journey. Space is limited, so please RSVP so we know how many to expect. DC Brau's taproom will be open for refreshments. All ages are welcome, but you must be 21+ to imbibe. Texas 4000 for Cancer’s mission is to cultivate student leaders and engage communities in the fight against cancer. Each year a team of dedicated University of Texas at Austin students complete a more than 4,000-mile bike ride sharing Hope, Knowledge, and Charity along the way. Over the course of their 18-month involvement with Texas 4000, riders train, fundraise, volunteer in the community, and serve in leadership roles to help plan every aspect of the summer ride. The leadership development program culminates in Texas 4000’s capstone event, a 70-day summer ride - the longest annual charity bike ride in the world. Since 2004, more than 980 students have completed the ride, raising over $12.1 million and logging more than 5.3 million miles – fighting cancer every mile.
