Fleet Technician – Senior South Florida Water Management District Homestead, FL The Fleet Technician performs a wide range of services to diagnose, repair and maintain District fleet units including cars, trucks, and diesel engines. S/he works on particularly troublesome service assignments such as repeat repairs and unusual symptoms and provides technical expertise, direction, and leadership to service staff. The technician must display sound judgment and superior decision-making skills. The Homestead Field Station work hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our offices are closed on Friday. Employment Guidelines High School Diploma or GED and 6+ years of experience performing senior level repair work Licenses and Certifications Valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and air brakes. If the selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, CDL Learner’s Permit is required at time of hire and the District will provide 3 months from date of hire to obtain CDL. The District is willing to pay the cost of the CDL training program. Must maintain a total of 8 valid ASE certifications between the following two specialties: Automotive: engine repair, automatic transmission/transaxle, manual drive train and axle, suspension & steering, brakes, electrical/electronic system, heating & air conditioning, engine performance. Medium/Heavy Truck: gasoline engine, diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension & steering, electrical/electronic system, heating & air conditioning, preventative maintenance inspection. Forklift Operations Certification. First Aid/CPR/AED. Physical Requirements/Working Environment Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Work activities typically involve the following: • Bending • Drive/Operate equipment • Exposure to carbon monoxide and dust, materials and waste (oils/grease/coolants/solvents) • Lifting to 50 pounds with assistance • Steady footing • Standing • Upper body vibration Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
