Description

Now that you are ready to head out on the trail let's get comfortable with navigation. Fortunately very few of us are likely to ever find ourselves in a survival situation, but we all spend some time outdoors. This time can become fascinating if we take our eyes off the smartphone, GPS or map for a few moments and ask the simple question, ‘Which way am I looking?’ A class designed for the beginner who wants to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer. Now that you are ready to head out on the trail let's get comfortable with navigation. We will help you understand the information that is contained within your map, how to use a compass, and how the two work together. We'll also discuss what to do if you don't have a map and compass. Map and Compass: Now that you are ready to head out on the trail let's get comfortable with navigation. We will help you understand the information that is contained within your map, how to use a compass, and how the two work together. You get time to practice taking a bearing from your surroundings and transferring it to your map. Natural navigators:Learn to read the sun, moon, stars, weather, land, sea, plants and animals. It is possible to navigate naturally on land or water, in the wild or in cities. Everything outdoors is a clue. Every plant, animal, cloud or star is both a sign and part of our map. Instructor: Marlon SmithMarlon runs Urban and Outdoor Survival. He is an outdoors expert teaching survival classes to students of any level in the tristate area. He arms students with the knowledge to get outdoors regardless of what comes your way. He wants you prepped mentally and with the right tools and skills for any situation. Marlon is a kindred spirit. Marlon grew up on the small island of Trinidad in the Caribbean. He grew up running the trails through tropical forests and setting campsites up on the beach. He also grew up in hurricane alley where he needed to learn what to do to survive when you're cut off from the modern world. Moving to NYC from the Caribbean required of him to find an escape from the concrete jungle that was now home. He discovered and fell in love with the hundreds of miles of trails north of NYC. This love gave him the drive and passion to teach others about the outdoors. Click Here for a CLASS PASS and SAVE!
